Famous Short Story Author Biographies

Hector Hugh Munro is a short story writer known by Saki. Hector was born on December 18, 1870 in the town of Akyab in Burma. All throughout his childhood he was sick and was taken out of school. During the summer of 1893 his father enrolled him in the military but after a year Hector had to return to England from a severe case of Malaria. Three years later he left for London and started to write in a newspaper for politics. From 1900 to around 1915 he wrote short stories and articles in the newspapers. Some of his famous short stories include The Interlopers, The Open Window, and The Holy War.Sadly on November 13, 1916 Hector was killed in the early hours of the winter morning by a sniper.

Edgar Allan Poe
Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. He is a very famous writer and well known for his poem, The Raven.  Poe is known for his dark and mysterious writings. His writings hold readers attention and grasp them. From early on Poe experienced pain from his mother dieing during his first three years of life and his dad leaving him later on in his childhood. In 1827 Poe published his first book and from then he left school and wrote full time. Poe's most famous stories include The Fall of the House of Usher,William Wilson, and Ligeia. Edgar Allan Poe died on October 7, 1849 shortly after ,Virgina, his wife died. No one really knows how he died, there are many theories but none of which have been said was the cause.
 
O'Henry
O HenryO'Henry was born on September 11, 1862 in North Carolina. His real name is William Sidney Porter. Porter began to work on a farm in Texas at age twenty but in 1884 he moved to Austin and used his pen name for the first time. It is said that his pen name came from the many times he called, "Oh,Henry" for his cat. Porter wrote many stories while he was in jail for five years because of banking charges. Once he was released from jail, he moved to New York and used his pen name to cover up his identity when he wrote his stories. On June 5, 1910 Porter died at age forty-seven. Although he died young he had many famous stories such as The Reformation of Calliope and The Hiding of Black Bill.
 
 
Julie Otsuka
julie otsukaOstsuka was born in California and spent all her childhood there. She went to Yale University for her undergraduates in arts. She pursued her dream as a painter but decided that it wasn't for her. At age thirty she decided to become a fiction writer. Otsuka's first book was When the Emperor was Divine.
