My thoughts about Black and White

Marcus and Eddie are two boys in high school. They broke the racial barrier to be best friends and lead the basketball team to victory. To make ends meet they decided to do stick ups but one night Eddie shot a man. From there everything went bad; Marcus was caught even though he didn’t shoot the man. He has to decide whether to tell the police it was Eddie who was the shooter or to keep quiet and probably go to jail for a longer time.
I chose this book because when I read the summary it seemed very interesting. The summary made me want to read the book to see what happened at the end. I also chose it because my friend read it before and recommended it to me. I wanted to read about the judicial system and how race comes into how it affects the sentence.
In the book a serious issue the book dealt with was racial discrimination and how to look beyond the color of our skin. Marcus and Eddie broke the racial barrier and were best friends that had each other’s back. The justice system is completely different though. There are no friends in the justice system that will have each other’s back. If you break the law you will have consequences for what you did just like in school or at home.
I thought the book overall was a decent book; it had its good and bad just like anything else in life. The beginning and middle were great. I thought through that time it was gripping and very interesting to see what will happen at the end of the book. Once I finished the book I was disappointed with the ending. I hoped that the book would end with more to it; whether Eddie was going to jail or with little bit of how it was in jail for Marcus.
